The University of Turin invites applications for two postdoctoral researcher (“assegnista di ricerca”) in the field of logic and philosophy of science.

POSITION #1

The first position is for a period of two years (24 months).

The successful candidate will work in the PRIN project From Models To Decisions, funded by the Italian Ministry for University and Research and directed by Professor Jan Sprenger. He or she will be affiliated to the Department of Philosophy and Education Sciences and the Center for Logic, Language, and Cognition (LLC).

The default starting date is 1 May 2020, but starting later can be mutually agreed. Below is a summary of the most important information. (Detailed information is available at: https://models2decisions.weebly.com/open-positions.html.)

Profile and evaluation criteria

Candidates must hold a PhD degree, or provide clear evidence of obtaining it in the next months. They must be able to demonstrate their research excellence in the area of philosophy of science and show to be able to contribute to the project’s goals. Candidates without thematic fit will not be admitted to the interview. The project investigates the interface between modeling and decision-making: how scientific models function, how they advance our knowledge despite their intrinsic uncertainty, and how they are interpreted in a decision context. (A detailed project description is available on the project website.)

Employment terms and conditions

The selected candidate will be appointed as a research fellow (assegnista di ricerca) for a period of two years (24 months). The fellowship (“assegno”) is exempt from regular income tax under Italian legislation; only social security contributions apply. The only way to apply is online, via the official site to apply for open positions in the Italian academic system. The official call can be found at https://pica.cineca.it/unito/tipologia/assegni under the name “Bando assegni di ricerca – Tornata I 2020”. Applications via other ways cannot be considered. Members of groups that are underrepresented in academia are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should submit the following documents, preferably (= to the extent that the electronic system allows) in a single pdf file:

The successful candidate will work in the PRIN project Logic and Cognition: Theory, Experiments, and Applications. Prof. Vincenzo Crupi is the director of Turin local unit of the project (with Professor Lorenzo Magnani in Pavia as a national coordinator). The project is funded by the Italian Ministry for University and Research. The successful candidate will be affiliated to the Department of Philosophy and Education Sciences and the Center for Logic, Language, and Cognition (LLC).

The default starting date is 1 May 2020, but starting sooner or later can be mutually agreed.
